The show, THE STAND-IN (Záskok), performed by professional, native English-speaking actors, is produced by the same company that produces the iconic Czech versions and has the blessing of Zdeněk Svěrák himself!
THE STAND-IN is not only a great translation of the original, but it is also played in the original theatre (Žižkovské Divadlo Jary Cimrmana), using the original sets, props and costume design. The experience of being in the theatre as close to the original production as possible ... without needing to speak Czech! This distinctly Czech humour has been out of reach for all but the most fluent of foreigners. Until now!
Cimrman, a fictional character created by Zdeněk Svěrák and Ladislav Smoljak, was voted the most important Czech in history in a poll by Czech TV in 2005. His work defines the Czech character and humour. He is a cultural touchstone much in the same way as Monty Python is for English speakers. And it's just as funny!

5* - I saw The Stand-in last night and really enjoyed it. We laughed throughout and I can thoroughly recommend it.
If you're an expat living in the Czech Republic it'll help build your knowledge of Czech culture of which Cimrman is an important part and it'll give you great street cred with Czechs. Don't worry about not following cultural references - this is perfectly accessible.
Most importantly you'll have a lovely evening out.
5* - Yesterday was my 3rd time with you guys, and I laughed all over again right from the start. You are making your performance better and better. I always go with different people, and everyone is very happy and pleased with the effort you are constantly puting in play and also how thoroughly you studied whole phenomenon of Cimrman. Keep up the good work! :) I will surely visit you again soon :)
5* - The play was AWESOME! For all those who are afraid Cimrman is a czech-only thing - no, it's not! Yes, some of the wordplay just cant be translated, but on the other hand, lots of other humorous parts appeared! Have fun, everybody. Great job casting Vavroch by the way, replacing the amazing Sverak
